Learning About Interior Design

Interior design is the procedure where a space is redesigned or reshaped by drawing in aspects of architecture, environmental psychology, product design and traditional decorating. It is, however, different from interior decorating. The main difference lies on how an interior decorator beautifies the place why interior designers put more focus on taking a holistic approach to the space. Sometimes interior design and interior decorating are used interchangeably, but the focus is different.

Interior design professionals are called interior designers. Interior designers specialize in analyzing programmatic information and finding a direction for the design. In some areas, interior designers need a license to practice. Some interior designers have specialized areas: some work with residential or commercial designs, while others are more specifically attuned to specific types of designing, like designing a hospital ward or a commercial building.

When starting out with interior design, there are some specific elements to keep mind of. These include:

Concept: before starting out with a project, visualize which concept will be used. Have an idea what the space needs and what can be done within the space.

Color: Color schemes are also really important when it comes to interior design. Specific colors can affect the mood of an area.

Proportion and Balance: It's not a good sight when one area is too cluttered and the rest of a space is completely bare. The design of the room should strike a proper balance.

Ergonomics and Function: Figure out what the space is for. Drawing a floor plan of the room helps. Making a list of the current furniture also works. By figuring out which furniture can be kept or which can be moved to another area, the design can be made not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional. This also reduces the costs for the person asking for the redesign of the space.

Here are some things to consider for interior design:

Budget: Before redesigning a space, take into consideration how much can be spent on the redesign of the area. Interior design does not necessarily come cheap, especially if major changes are being planned.

People: The needs of the people using or inhabiting the place should be considered. Who will occupy the place? Safety is also a consideration that has to be made. Aesthetics and function is what interior design is about.

Style: Before starting the project, have a particular style in mind. Finding the theme of the area can act as a guideline when choosing what design, furniture and color can be used.

Schedule: Plan a schedule on what needs to be done when. Although most schedules are never really followed to the dot, it is crucial that a time frame be used as reference for when the project is expected to be finished.
